There are places that inspire us and keep us coming back to them. For the amazing couple, Rachel and Ryan, this place is Vail, CO. I was the second-shooter for their beautiful summer wedding, and it’s one that stays in my mind.
Rachel and Ryan call Chicago home but were drawn to the watercolor scenery of Vail for their special day. And they fit right in with the relaxed nature of their surroundings. Everything felt effortless and at ease with them.
The wedding ceremony took place at the sophisticated Vail Interfaith Chapel which complemented their modern approach to attire. Rachel and Ryan both broke away from the typical “vanilla” aesthetic and embraced a more contemporary flare in their clothing.
One of the many things I loved about this wedding was the lavish detail that colored every corner. Their reception was held at the Sonnenalp Resort which had a solarium that invited a beautiful natural lighting. The venue was lined with rich wood crafted to perfection, bringing the coziness of a Swiss chalet.
The affection of this wedding brought up personal memories of mine of when I would come to this area as a child. I would visit Vail often and come to Ludwig’s, a gorgeous venue that moonlighted as a wedding venue every year. I would warm up with bowl-sized cups of hot chocolate and adventure with my family in the far-reaching views of the Colorado backcountry.
Essential places stay with us and sometimes bring us back. It was amazing to witness such an emotional place for me through the experience of other people. And while Vail, CO may be a small town, it’s big enough to enliven all who spend time there.
