One of the things I have come to love is small intimate weddings and elopements. I recently read about someone griping on stylized shoots and how they give the impression that you can trape into the woods and have a wedding when that’s just not possible. In the state of Colorado, it is possible! You don’t even need an officiant in the state of Colorado to get married. Finding a quiet spot that has special meaning to you and your beloved is literally all you need. The amount of detail that you wish to incorporate with special meaning truly is up to you.

I personally struggled with losing site of what Jerry and my wedding was about. Not wanting to go into debt with our wedding we had to let go of a lot of the things that I viewed as important to keep our guest list of 300+. It’s amazing in hindsight how much I would have changed about our day. Don’t get me wrong, it was beautiful and it portrayed who we were but I know for a fact that I went a little too Pinterest happy on trying to make it magical all the while trying to accommodate a very large guest list. At the end of the day, I couldn’t even tell you half the people who attended. Many times I became overwhelmed with all the details and thinking my wedding had to fit into a specific box of what society deemed perfect. If you find that your wedding planning is full of more stressful moments than enjoying the short stage of being engaged and planning,  you might want to take a step back and reevaluate where your priorities are.

I have two thoughts on this! First, I get really nervous, for the bride, when I chat with them and they tell me they’re planning their wedding without a wedding planner/coordinator. There is a reason coordinators exist and I’ll save the details on that for another day. For now, all I will say is consider hiring a wedding planner, it will remove a lot of stress and tension so you can keep your focus on your fiance and marriage. The second thought is to consider a small intimate wedding. Get back to focusing on the pieces of your wedding that are truly important to you and incorporating the details that have significance to you. Don’t let tradition be the guide of planning your perfect day.

The following was inspired by the idea of focusing on the marriage and not just the wedding. We tried to create an atmosphere that was romantic and effortless and put the emphasis on the couple. This wedding was planned in Red Feather Lakes just off the road in a quiet spot by the river.
